A community energy management system for smart microgrids

Community micro-grid energy projects are needed to drive de-carbonisation and increase equity of systems among displaced communities. However, solutions often inflexible lack functionality respond community needs ensure the long-term sustainability interventions. This paper explores use fog-computing retrofit architectures deployed on infrastructures enable flexible demand management improve service delivery longevity. A micro-services solution is proposed that decouples components increasing resilience testability while allowing hybrid edge-cloud deployments. The architecture outlined demonstrated for a providing two nurseries playground in Kigeme refugee camp, Rwanda. To enact priorities within system, modified Genetic Algorithm (GA) methods tested different use-case scenarios. performance GA then compared with pre-existing battery protect controller an alternative deterministic (space-shared) manager model. achieve high utility function almost every use-case, search space method was required outperform both existing method. results show how simple can be set used control system 24h timeframes line local decision-making context.
